Wheatgrass! so whats the fuss about? you seen it everywhere these days and I'm sure most of you have had a shot of the green power juice when visiting a juicebar, well I certainly hope so. Well here is the word on the green stuff and why its so good for you. Now I'm sure that you've noticed like us the increasing trend towards natural health, I think folk have worked out that pill popping is not the answer and it's best to take responsibility for your own health in a "prevention is far better than having a thermometer up your botski while in a NHS gown" way. I know I do.

We are what we eat! thats a phrase thats gets around a bit at the moment isn't it? Well its true, your body is constantly renewing itself from the inside out, in two years all your soft tissue (muscles, organs, skin sloppy internal bits) are completely renewed. In a seven year cycle all your bones are completely renewed!! good isn't it!! none of us have bit on us that is more than 7 years old, you know what that means?? As cells recreate themselves you can choose the health of your cells and each part of your body giving you the ability to combat cancers and take control! A diseased cell is a cell that is not at ease break it down dis-ease, if you focus on disease your body will create more diseased cells. If you are focuced on health and vitalitv your body will create healthy cells So find ways to prove to your self how healthy now are and enjoy yourself, let the doctors think about disease

what that means is to stay in tip top form and radiant health you need to make sure the building blocks you give your body are of the best quality and that nothing is missing or lacking!

Also making sure that your body's waste products from all this building are taken away and not allowed to accumulate. So next time you eye up a man maid processed food in the supermarket stop and ask yourself what that will help your body build!! Wholefoods what are whole foods? well a whole food can be two things really, a whole food is either an unprocessed food stuff (we like these despite being harder to chew) or the expression "wholefood" can refer to a foodstuff so complex and complete that should you only eat that for the rest of your days, apart from being a little bored you'd basically be Ok.

Wheatgrass happens to be one of these, it has protein, carbohydrate, fats and the essential vitamins and minerals to sustain life! Think on it for a while, picture a horse and rider, one is a muscular beast that can run and run all day long, eating a staple diet of grasses, the other is it's passenger, possibly runs on takeaways, not quite so lean and definitely unable to run all day! The increase in your energy levels will be the first thing you notice with wheatgrass.

Now I don't mean go out and start grazing but you get the idea of what a simple fresh diet can do!! Most people equate protein intake with muscle building, it just ain't so! Look at nature, the lean, energetic beasts are mostly veggie chompers. Do you think it is a coincidence that human mothers breast milk ,fruits and vegetables all have almost exactly the same ratio of the main nutrients we need as humans to grow and survive healthily?

How can we benefit from wheatgrass? Well our digestive tract is somewhat different from that of a horse, cow, sheep or any grazing animal for that matter so step in JUICING!! funny that with me drinking juices all the time !! Juicing wheatgrass unlocks the minerals vitamins and sheer green goodness of the grass and allows us to digest and ultize it without the inconvenience of having to grow another three stomachs.

Whats in wheatgrass juice? where do I start!! plenty! amino acids, vitamins (wheatgrass juice just happens to be a non animal source of B12) , enzymes, minerals and trace elements (from the 92 minerals available wheatgrass manages to suck 90 out of the soil) Essential fatty acids, protein 2% as juice, up to 45% as dried powder (meat being 25%), beta carotene (natural vitamin A) and chlorophyll

Chlorophyll, now this is a good bit, chlorophyll is what makes green veggies green, its one of the elements required for photosynthesis, this is the green plant's ability to suck up the suns rays and convert carbon dioxide into oxygen. Hence wheatgrass juice is sometimes called liquid sunshine! Chlorophyll when taken in wheatgrass juice or any green juice for that matter is marvellously cleansing at a cellular level, helps to build the blood's ability to carry oxygen and just generally rocks the house from a health point of view!!!

Alkalising too, wheatgrass and other grass juices are heavily alkaline, I'll go into this topic in more detail on another page but alkalising foods are good, acid foods in too greater abundance are bad!!

How to juice wheatgrass to juice wheatgrass you need a single auger juicer or a twin gear juicer, a centrifugal machine just won't cut the mustard so to speak, the power can be mixed in a blender or juicer

Wheatgrass juice is one of nature's true super foods; in fact it is a complete food capable of sustaining human life in the absence of other nourishment for long periods. We certainly wouldn't recommend such a single-track approach to nutrition, but this amazing juice contains almost everything necessary to keep us going. Wheatgrass Juice is extracted from the young sprouts of wheat berries or grains. It has optimal nutritional value if juiced when the shoot of the plant is about to make its first stem division (usually at 7-10 inches growth).

It is easy to grow your own wheatgrass and have a ready supply on hand for juicing. This means the juice you produce is as fresh and vital as possible going straight from harvest to your body via the juicer.

Wheatgrass juice contains complete protein; it is suitable for those who are gluten-free because gluten, the protein element in the grain, is converted to amino acids during sprouting. A common misunderstanding is that to supply our bodies with protein we must eat protein. This is not so, amino acids are the building blocks of the proteins our bodies use. If we eat protein in the form of grains, pulses, fish or meat, our bodies must break down these proteins into amino acids in order to digest them, and then reconstitute these into the required proteins. Thus it is easier to provide our bodies with the right range of amino acids to produce the protein we need and cut out the taxing process of breaking down protein we consume, especially if that protein has been damaged by cooking. Wheatgrass juice is a very good provider of the proteins required for cell regeneration and is renowned for it's healing properties.

The juice is very rich in chlorophyll. The chlorophyll molecule is very similar in structure to the haemoglobin molecule, the oxygen carrier in our blood. Wheatgrass is such a concentrated source of chlorophyll and other nutrients that about 2 ounces of juice provides the same nourishment as up to 4 pounds of fresh green vegetables. Wheatgrass juice is an excellent blood tonic, increasing the haemoglobin content of the blood and improving oxygen transport, it is thus helpful with people suffering anaemia. Chlorophyll also has natural antibiotic properties, which help to maintain a healthy digestive tract.

Apart from being a blood builder, wheatgrass juice is also a blood purifier greatly assisting in the removal of waste products of the body because of its 'detergent' properties. It helps drainage of the lymphatic system and breaks down mucous, which can render the body's natural processes less efficient. It is said to be helpful in the removal of carcinogens, harmful chemicals and heavy metals present in the body.

The juice is very rich in enzymes that assist the body in a vast array of metabolic processes. As in other raw foods, these enzymes, along with the minerals, amino acids and vitamins, are in an easily usable form. The difference with wheatgrass is the sheer concentration of these nutrients. It is perhaps this abundance that gives it one of its most agreeable features: It is wonderfully energizing and can be very useful for helping through times of increased strain or illness. It can also be used externally to help with wounds, skin conditions, and dandruff.

The vitamin content of this juice is outstanding and it is a powerful antioxidant. When the seed is sprouted there is a massive increase in the vitamin and enzyme content of the young sprout compared to that of the original kernel. Fats are broken down into readily available fatty acids, carbohydrates and sugars and it provides a plethora of minerals in the form our bodies are designed for. Again, personal experiences of the benefits this juice has to offer give us great enthusiasm in recommending it to our customers as part of a healthy lifestyle.
